I was so lucky that OPI Norway sent me six of the shades from their Hawaii Collection! I haven’t been able to afford the entire collection myself, and I haven’t been able to choose just a few, so OPI solved the problem for me 😉
First off a disclaimer about my cuticles! They are horrible, I know, if you read my previous post you know I’ve been a busy bee, and my nails and cuticles have been suffering. I’ve sold my apartment and am now in the process of moving, so I’ve been cleaning a lot and carrying a lot of boxes and furniture. So my cuticles are dry, my nails are breaking and I don’t have time to give them any TLC! But I wanted to get these swatches up before we’re suddenly in autumn 😉
I was going to do a video review as well, but like I said, I have like no time to do anything fun these days!
I got to choose the six shades myself, I chose the three shades I’ve been most curious about and three crémes, because I can never get enough of pink, mint and nude crémes! So let’s jump in and start with the three crémes.
OPI – Suzi Shops & Island Hops. 3 coats, no top coat.
Yes, you did read correctly, I needed three coats for full opacity! Which is not ok for me, especially when it’s an OPI polish, I don’t think I have any other OPI créme polish that need three coats. It does dry quickly and very shiny, and the color is pretty. But I do have other light pink crémes with better formula, so I will probably reach for those instead of this.
OPI – That’s Hula-rious! 3 coats + top coat.
Formula of this is the same as with Suzi Shops & Island Hops. You could get away with just two coats, if you apply a thicker second coat and are careful with application. It does dry quickly and shiny though, which sort of make up for the lack of opacity.
Do You Take Lei Away. 2 coats + top coat.
The formula of this was good. The first coat was slightly streaky, but it looked perfect with a second coat. I’m a sucker for a good nude nail polish, so this one will be used a lot!
I have collected quite a few nude nail polishes, so I’m thinking of doing a comparison, let me know if that’s something you’d be interested in!
OPI – Just Lanai-ing Around. 2 coats + top coat.
This polish could actually be a one coater! I am slightly OCD when it comes to always applying two coats though, so these swatches are two coats. It’s a gorgeous mauve colors with silver shimmer. The shimmer is not very visible on the nail though, but it does give it a little bit of depth. This is the shade I was most curious about, I thought it was going to be a favorite for sure! Turns out that it’s not actually. There’s nothing really wrong with it, but it doesn’t feel all that special either. Also, it doesn’t feel right for a summer collection. I think I am going to love it for fall, but this is not a summer shade to me.
OPI – Go With The Lava Flow. 2 coats + top coat.
Another possible one coater! I did not expect this to be so opaque, I don’t think I have any shimmery polish that’s opaque in just one coat, OPI you got it right for this one!
This is a favorite of mine. This polish makes me feel things a nail polish should not! I’m not joking, when I first put this on all I could say was “yaaaassss!!!”. It’s so beautiful! It’s an orange-red shade packed with gold shimmer. It sparkles so beautifully in the sun and it’s so bright. This is a perfect summer shade!
OPI – This Color’s Making Waves. 2 coats + top coat.
This is my absolute favorite of them all! I was sure I had two other polishes in my collection that looked the same, but they don’t, and this one is the most beautiful of them as well. It’s a teal blue shimmer filled with copper shimmer and glitter particles. The first coat was thin, but two coats was perfect. It did look a bit “brush-strokey”, but it evened out when it dried. It did not dry glossy, but not matte either, sort of to a satin finish. I do prefer it with a shiny top coat.
I wore this as a full manicure for several days, and I could not stop staring at my nails! And that one day when the sun came out, holy crap it’s so sparkly and shiny, it almost blinded me!
So, to sum up, I would not bother buying Suzi Shops & Island Hops and That’s Hula-rious!. The shades are not unique and the formula was not very good. If you’re looking for a good nude or have a nude obsession like me, Do You Take Lei Away is a great nude nail polish!
Just Lanai-ing Around is a very pretty color, but I can’t see myself wearing this during the summer, so I do find it odd that they included it in a summer collection.
If there are two shades you definitely should pick up, it’s Go With The Lava Flow and This Color’s Making Waves! I have been wearing them for the past two weeks, going from one to the other, I love them! The colors are amazing and the formula was great too.
